Abused pets do not have a magic button you just push when you rescue them. Their recovery, both physical and emotional, needs time, and when you are least prepared, your dog or puppy is ready to open up again and trust humans.
However, the abused animal’s trust is not the only kind of trust we should focus on. Families who can provide an animal with a loving home, should trust a rescued dog and believe in the power of love without being scared that their pet will someday become aggressive or distant. Finding a great foster family is equally hard as making the animal believe in humanity again.

Not for Mojo, though!
Mojo, this cute pit bull puppy, was three months old when he came to a rescue shelter from a home where the conditions were too terrible to describe. Apart from that, Mojo had a severe case of mange and he was in a pretty bad shape. The rescuers were sure that he had been abused and neglected.
But don’t be sad yet because things turned out great for him!
The man of the hour? Joey Wagner, the great hero who runs a nonprofit animal rescue organization in Nova Scotia, Canada, and took the poor puppy to the animal hospital where veterinarians managed to save it from a painful death.
Mojo the Puppy got an amazing treatment that soon gave roots, and a slow but steady recovery began. Even though everybody wanted to adopt the puppy, the shelter said that it needed special care and he should not be considered for regular adoptions.
He needed someone special in his life.
So, when Joey heard that the puppy he had saved was not allowed to leave the shelter with a new owner, he headed to the hospital he was being taken care of.
Joey walked in the room during one of Mojo’s regular exams. When the adorable pit bull saw him, it was more than obvious that he had recognized the man who had saved him.
