Fortunately, the animals are not poisonous. The hospital says that Sam will make a full recovery.
Richard Reina, an associate professor at Monash University’s Biological sciences in Australia, assures the concerned that everything is fine. The animals were only able to do that much damage because Sam didn’t notice them. They’re actually naturally occurring scavengers that are harmless under normal circumstances.
Reina compares it to allowing “hundreds of Mosquitoes to keep feeding on your arm for half an hour.” He goes on to say “There’s no need to stay out of the water.”
