Famed Dance Moms instructor, Abby Lee Miller had to turn herself in earlier this month for her year-long stint in jail. The former dancer and teacher is famous for her Lifetime reality-tv show Dance Moms where she coaches a group of little girls.
Miller has been charged with bankruptcy fraud and was sentenced to a year and a day in prison. The 50-year-old will serve her time at the Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville, CA. In a tv-special filmed by Lifetime, she can be seen eating macaroni and cheese while being driven around.
Inmates have described Miller as a “mess” since she entered the jail. According to one inmate, Miller has been “cleaning bathroom toilets, but they would still take a dance class with her.”
During her Lifetime special, Dance Moms: Abby Tells All Exclusive the instructor revealed her biggest fear is getting killed in jail.
Miller was accused of hiding over $700,000 in secret accounts during 2012-13. Shortly after, Miller filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. She was also accused of splitting $120,000 in Australian currency between friends and having them carry money in plastic baggies in their luggage in 2014. This is in violation of a Federal Law that requires individuals to report any money over $10,000 that they bring into the country.
Miller later agreed to give the Australian money to the government. In addition to her prison sentence, she has been fined $40,000 and ordered to return $120,000 to the government. Miller will also be registered as a convicted felon.
Legal officials believe Miller will only serve ten months of her year-long sentence. Miller is most worried about her businesses and quality of life during her jail stint.
Miller underwent gastric sleeve bypass surgery before heading to jail. Dance Moms cameras followed her while she visited the doctor.
Right now, her shows on Lifetime Network are on hiatus. Her relationships with former cast members have been strained. Miller admits she was wrong for her fraudulent actions.
