Vogue’s September Issue is one of its most prominent editions. Previous editions have included over 900 pages and sold thousands of copies.
This year’s September Issue will feature a cover appearance from Jennifer Lawrence and an interview with former US Army Intelligence analyst and whistle blower Chelsea Manning.
Manning was convicted in 2013 by the US government for leaking thousands of classified documents to the Wikileaks website. A site that also featured leaked emails of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Presidential election.
Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison and came out as transgender just a day after sentencing. She began taking hormone pills while staying in an all-male military prison. She was the first prisoner to start hormone treatments. Manning made multiple requests to be transferred to a civilian prison but her requests were denied.
President Obama commuted her sentence in the final days of his administration. Manning was charged with 22 counts such as violating the US Espionage Act. Manning was demoted to private and dishonorably discharged from the military.
Currently, the US has an extradition request for Julian Assange the founder and owner of Wikileaks. Another whistleblower, National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, is in exile in Russia.
Manning did her first major interview with the New York Times Magazine in June. Manning is now living in New York and she’s trying to make a life for herself in the city.
Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, who worked with Caitlyn Jenner, shot the main photo of Manning on the beach. Donning a red swimsuit, Manning is seen smiling while posing on the beach.
The interview has been posted online via the vogue.com website. Manning took to social media to post the premier picture of her on the beach.
