Who? What? Why? How? We’ve got the answers.

People who believe that pit bull are unpredictable are everywhere to be found. The bad reputation these little folks have is so popular that there is a kind of common belief that pit bulls are dangerous. Well, spoiler alert: They are not!

Pit bulls are a great company and totally capable of giving and receiving love and care from and to their owner. One of these lucky owners is Dan Tillery.

Dan, who is also a musician, just recently adopted a pit bull puppy and, of course, he was on cloud nine. The first thing he wanted to do was to share his excitement with his Internet friends (you know what they say: Post it or it never happened). So, he took a selfie with his new pup and posted it on Facebook.

A selfie that later got him in a lot of trouble.

Dan Tillery from Michigan just took his phone and took a great picture of him and his really sweet pit bull, Diggy. In just a few hours, the police were knocking at his door demanding he hand Diggy to them.

The reason why the police paid this unexcpected visit was that one of Dan’s Internet friends had called them after he saw the picture of him and his dog hanging. Because owning a pit bull in Michigan is illegal.

Yeap. ILLEGAL.

However, Dan was not ready to betray his new friend and give up.

The musician decided that the only way to get Diggy back was by finding a loophole in the law so he just started digging his dog’s family tree. As it turned out this was the wisest decision he could ever make since he discovered something spectacular.

Diggy was not a pit bull. In fact, he was an American Bulldog. Ha! Of course, Dan rushed to the police station to reclaim his dog where he made another discovery.

Although being the owner of a pit bull is illegal in Michigan, the police are not allowed to identify dogs themselves. So, the officers who had visited Dan’s house removed Diggy illegally. And if something happens once, it means that it has definitely happened before.

However, the police would not “close the case” and let Diggy go back to his house. It took a long legal process until Diggy was officially determined to be an American Bulldog and he could live a happy life with Dan and his family by his side.

This is a story with a happy ending just because Tillery just didn’t lose hope and kept fighting for his new family member. What is really alarming, however, is how easily those police officers took Diggy away without having the right to do so. We are sure that hundreds of other owners have been forced to give away their dogs because of the breed without having to.

Luckily, both Diggy and the story have gained a lot of attention so dog owners now know their rights. Apart from that, Diggy and Dan are back together and if the law could not keep them apart, nothing will.
