A missing pet is always worrisome news, but we all had a little giggle when one woman posted an ad about her missing cat, Babou, referring to her pet as a “jerk.”

Mary Irwin of North Carolina wrote on her flyer: “Babou is a 6 year old, spayed, grey female shorthair with no chip and no collar, about 10 pounds. She’s been missing since Friday morning, June 9th.”

She added: “She’s mostly friendly but may run if you try to catch her – she’s kind of a jerk, too. She has strong opinions about things.”

The story has a happy ending, as the woman’s cat found her way home. Irwin explained in an email to ABC News, “Babou walked up to our front door in the pouring rain and meowed LOUDLY until we let her inside. She’s a little thinner and totally soaked but home safe and sound!!”

Irwin posted about Babou’s homecoming on Instagram, writing: “@babouthejerk is HOME! After all the leads and articles and emails and calls she walked up to the front door in the pouring rain and meowed until we let her in. Thank you to all the news outlets who made her go viral in an attempt to bring her home. PS – she’s still a jerk.”

In Babou’s defense, the cat, who has her own Instagram account now, set the record straight, writing: “I’m not a jerk, I swear. I just don’t understand why everyone doesn’t live by my rules. Or give me food all the time. #catjerk #catsofinstagram #gonnabiteyou #cutebutevil.”
