Who doesn’t love a handmade dress or gown? Especially when you are planning to wear it on your prom night. The designer usually works the prom dress keeping your body in mind, and the result is so great that you just steal the show from the moment you walk in.
This did not happen in Malexa Maeweather’s case. Because things got bad. Really bad.
According to Yahoo News, Dee Lewis, Malexa’s mother, contacted a small designer based in Rochester, New York, named Kia Wagner to make a dress for her daughter using fabric the family already owned. After she gave her the $100 dollar deposit that Wagner had asked for, Malexa received the final product which looked like this –the photo was taken the night before prom:
Lewis got so angry that she called out Wagner by name and asked for her deposit back. This is the dress from the front, the side, and the back:
According to an interview Dee Lewis gave to Yahoo News, Malexa had seen her dream dress on Instagram but when she tried to place an order, she was informed that it was out of stock. So, in order to make her daughter happy, Lewis chose a local designer to create another, equally beautiful gown:
“For a $100 deposit, Kia told my daughter that she would make her something nice with material she already owned and that she wanted to ‘play around with the design. Malexa didn’t know anything about what the dress would look like,” she says.
However, when Malexa saw her prom dress for the first time, she was shocked and started crying. Luckily a family friend came in to save the day and gave Malexa the dress her daughter had worn the year before. In exchange for a few dollars, Malexa’s mother hired a dressmaker to redesign the gown.
A wise decision if you consider that her daughter looked G-R-E-A-T:
The designer [Wagner] has not commented yet: “She didn’t offer any reimbursement as a professional courtesy,” Lewis says.
