On January 10th, 2017, Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States, gave his farewell address to a teary-eyed crowd.
In Obama’s 50 minute speech, he touched on nearly everything that happened during his Presidency. He reminded Americans of how bad it was back in 2008 when he took the reigns on a country that was exhausted thanks to a failing economy and several drawn out wars.
He rattled off a long list of his accomplishments. “Wages, incomes, home values and retirement accounts are all rising again. Poverty is falling again. The wealthy are paying a fair share of taxes. Even as the stock market shatters records, the unemployment rate is near a 10-year low.” He touched on marriage equality, and even the death of Osama Bin Laden.
He also acknowledged everything that was still wrong with the US, citing ” the waitress or health care worker who’s just barely getting by and struggling to pay the bills” as examples.
