A 20-year old McDonald’s sauce packet just sold for $15,000 after being name-dropped in a joke on the darkly funny cartoon Rick and Morty. The joke itself is a really long rant about how much Rick loves the Szechuan sauce, and he’ll wait 9 seasons or longer if that’s what it takes. Of course, Rick is spewing green vomit and belching the whole time.
The packet contains McDonald’s ultra-rare Szechuan nugget sauce which was made specifically made for the release of Disney’s iconic film, Mulan.
The seller’s listing says “I just bought a really old car, while cleaning it I found a packet of this sauce. After watching the recent episode of Rick and Morty I went online to see if it was worth anything. Turns out it was.” The packet also comes with a free side of wasabi.
The seller hopes “somebody who wants to eat some 20-year-old gnarly sauce gets [the packet] I would prefer not to sell it to a collector.” While the sauce is still in a sealed packet, no one knows whether or not it’s still good. The buyer hasn’t yet been reached for comment.
The episode has spawned dozens of petitions for McDonald’s to bring back the sauce. The largest has over 37,000 signatures. McDonald’s is also getting spammed with messages begging for the sauce’s return.
Amateur chefs have also made dozens of videos on how to recreate the sauce at home. You know, just in case you don’t have $15,000 lying around.
McDonald’s isn’t ruling out the idea. The company responded to a Twitter message from “Rick and Morty” with one of Rick’s catch phrases.

If the sauce was to return, people are betting that it’ll be after the release of the new live-action version that should be out sometime in 2018.
