A lonely humped fellow, Caesar the camel was one year old when he arrived at the traveling Pony X-Press Petting Zoo. Sociable and very sweet, he was desperate for companionship. At the same time, 10 year-old Dolly, an Appaloosa mare, was losing her sight. They met and bonded, each filling a need in the other and making unusual animal news. Caesar is there to guide her around and when he’s not nearby (which isn’t often) she whinnies for him, and he bellows an answer from wherever he may be.

Ed Papsis of the Pony X-Pres Zoo said: “Dolly is probably the only horse with a seeing eye camel.” The two eat, sleep and play together in their own little barn. Caesar is so devoted to Dolly that he will station himself in front of her when she is sleeping and swaying her tail to shoo the flies away from her face. According to Candis Veilleux, the owner of Pony X-Press Petting Zoo, Dolly the mare has known no other home, and when her sight began to deteriorate, she soon realized the horse would need some help in getting around.
