When most people get a luxury car, they usually handle it with kid gloves. But others, aren’t as careful.
Ibiza authorities have arrested an Australian woman for crashing a $500,000 Ferrari into a bathroom before trying to escape on her boyfriend’s private jet.
The woman, a 25-year old model living in Britain, was in Ibiza vacationing with her boyfriend. Ibiza is an island off the coast of Spain, known for its wild nightlife.
According to authorities, the woman panicked after crashing the car into a local restroom. She was under the influence of cocaine during the time of the erratic incident.
Allegedly, she fled the scene with her boyfriend, a British resident, and tried to board a plane at the Ibiza Codolar airport.
The boyfriend was in the car at the time of the accident, and he tried to help his girlfriend flee the country via his private jet.
The couple took the luxury car for a joyride at approximately 9 p.m. The driver, the 25-year-old Australian woman, crashed the car into a bathroom and damaged the body of the vehicle.
The couple left the car at the scene of the accident, and the boyfriend instructed one of his employees to watch the vehicle. Area witnesses saw the commotion and notified local authorities.
The police tracked the couple down to the Codolar airport and stopped them just before they boarded the flight. Authorities performed a drug test and found the woman under the influence of cocaine. Authorities continued questioning the woman and discovered she did not possess a driver’s license.
Ibiza police took her into custody and charged her with driving under the influence and driving without a license.
Shortly after, the woman was released from police custody and given a tentative court date.
Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol is a serious incident that can result in death. The CDC reports that every day, 28 people in the U.S. die from a driver under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
